I've been coming to this place for a few years. Very rarely disappointed. Regular haddock and chips comes with a pot of tea and bread and butter. This will set you back £8. Service is always good. Menu contains other option - starters and mains, which do not involve fish and chips. Personally, if I'm coming here, that's what I'm having, but I understand the roast chicken and chicken salads are nice. There is an extensive dessert menu and a wine list with a raft of beverages. The facilities have been modernised some time in the last couple of years. Dining area is contemporarily furnished. Bathroom facilities are nice, too. Service and quality are mirrored in the take - away, adjoining. Parking is ample except on the busiest days - Mothering Sunday and the like. Grumpy teenage son would not accompany my wife and daughter as it's "Full of old people" Clientele are mixed, but this is a favourite for the older generation and I have been her when organised trips have turned up. On these occasions you may have to wait - you cannot reserve tables. Its a case of putting your name down and hanging about. Never waited longer than 20 mins. The format and quality are identical at the York branch. The restaurant actually in Wetherby is not purpose built like these two, and is an older café - style establishment.

We used to go all the time on the way home from the cinema, but the last few times we've been served half portions of chips , which at their prices, is disgraceful. We all arrived home still hungry and will not be returning.

My first ever visit this lunch time. I walked in to the takeaway section and asked 'do you do chip butties' . The boy behind the counter then charged me over £5. I thought to myself that's a bit steep. He then proceeded to serve me two portions of chips - I stopped him and said I only want one - he said 'you asked for two' - I said 'no I said do you do chip butties!' He then fumbled in the till and literally threw the refunded money back in my hand. I was then handed a teacake and I was dismissed as he proceded to take the person behind me's order. No thank you, no manners no nothing. I went to sit outside and opened the box to find about 15 chips inside!! I also think a chip butty should be a teacake with chips inside not seperate. Not impressed! Give me a normal local chippy any day of the week.

Been to the Wakefield Wetherby Whaler several times and have always found the food to be of excellent quality and the service good. Shame they have taken alcohol off the menu
